E.C. Comics: Two Specials!

Hee, hee...NOPE! This ISN'T the 100TH POST YET! Its the 98TH...due to some DRAFTS! Nearly HAD you there, DIDN'T I?

YES! Your PUTRID POSTER is back, and TODAY we'll be paying TRIBUTE to the CLASSIC E.C. COMICS OF THE '50S..and with TWO TERROR-TALES from their MORBID MAGS! I'm sure you've HEARD of "TALES FROM THE CRYPT"..."THE VAULT OF HORROR"..."THE HAUNT OF FEAR"! CHILLINGLY GOOD, if y'ask me!

by GRAHAM "GHASTLY" INGELS

Even this POST is written in that style! THE EXCLAMATION POINTS! THE DOT-DOT-DOTS... The OVERUSE of BOLD and ITALICS! But good ol' WILLIAM GAINES and AL FELDSTEIN (GOD REST THEIR SOULS) created MEMORABLE stories that CONTINUE to ENTERTAIN a MODERN READER...most GRUESOMELY brought to life by JACK DAVIS, GEORGE EVANS, JACK KAMEN, BERNARD KRIGSTEIN, and (my own favorite) GRAHAM "GHASTLY" INGELS!

So why don't we CELEBRATE the TRADITION of these CLASSIC COMICS with two of the SCARIEST stories from them? FASTEN your DROOL CUPS...TUCK your SHROUDS under your SCRAWNY NECKS...and ENJOY the HORRORS of...

E.C. COMICS!

"...And All Through the House..."
A Christmasy Tale of Terror from the Vault of Horror
Story and Art by Johnny Craig

WE-HE-HELL! How's THAT for you? YES...HORROR OF HORRORS...HE'S DRIPPING ON THE CARPET!!!!!!!!!!!

ANYWHO, look's like SHE'S IN A SNOWY SITUATION...geddit? GEDDIT? "SNOWY" SITUATION? As in STICKY SITUATION? GEDDIT? GEDDIT? Aw, FORGET about it! You guys have NO TASTE!

"The Living Death!"
A Creepy Tale of Hypnotism and Death, brewed up in the Witch's Cauldron
Written by Al Feldstein (from a plot germ by William Gaines) and illustrated by Graham Ingels

And HERE we have a SINEWY SITUATION, EH?

Aw, I should have just LEFT that PUTRID PUN LIE in the GRAVE.

HEY! See a SIMILARITY to ANYTHING, hmm? YES! You're RIGHT! When coming up with PLOT GERMS for the STORY, editor WILLIAM GAINES would occasionally take INSPIRATION from other works of literature: thusly, H.P. LOVECRAFT, ARTHUR MACHENROBERT E. HOWARD, and others got a FACELIFT in the COMICS...and EDGAR ALLAN POE did, TOO! This one is HEAVILY INSPIRED by his GROTESQUE and REPULSIVE horror work, "THE FACTS IN THE CASE OF M. VALDEMAR"!

I'll ADMIT that this is not GRAHAM INGELS' BEST REPRESENTATION of the OLD WITCH (one of his EARLIER versions), but his ARTWORK is still STUNNING and POWERFUL in its USUAL MANNER.

BTW, I'd like to give a SNOT OUT to the CRYPTIC CORRIDOR for this CARCASS-COMIC! Got to THANK THEM for POSTING this up there! It is a STUNNING BLOG on HORROR FICTION, LITERATURE, and so on! I found "THE LIVING DEATH" on that site, but they've a (admittedly SMALL) GEM-STUDDED E.C. COMICS LIBRARY, amongst OTHER THINGS! Sure is BETTER than this BLOG, EH? HEE, HEE!

WELL! Hope you ENJOYED this PUTRID PORTION OF POST! Just wanted to pay TRIBUTE to the CLASSICS! And by CLASSICS I mean the COMICS! OH, and ONE MORE THING! SOME OF THE TEXT IS SET IN ARIAL BECAUSE THE SERIF FONT WOULD'VE BEEN A BIT MUCH FOR THE EYES!

HEE, HEE! Did you THINK it was something IMPORTANT? I DOUBT IT! BYE, ALL!

This is gonna freak you out.

Happy 92nd Birthday to Christopher Lee, a True Genius of the Macabre

Hey guys! The 100th post is coming along well...we have some big things in store!

A truly awesome actor is celebrating his fantabulous 92nd birthday...his name is...

CHRISTOPHER LEE!

To celebrate, let's countdown three AWESOME moments from Chris! Of course there are MANY awesome roles, but here are a choice few!

I.
The Wicker Man
No comment needed.

Arguably the most famous film Christopher Lee was ever in. He plays Lord Summerisle, who leads a cult on the remote island of the same name. The cult eventually burns the protagonist, Sergeant Howie (Edward Woodward). The film ends with a poignant moment of bravery.

"Sumer is icumen in,
Lhude sing, cuccu;
Groweth sed
and bloweth med,
And springth the wode nu;
Sing, cuccu!"

II.
The Lord of the Rings
Wow! It's looking at this that makes me realized how much Game of Thrones rips off is "inspired."

Here we see Lee in his creepy performance as Tolkien's Saruman, a powerful wizard and the embassy of the prime antagonist, Sauron.

Sauron looks pretty freakin' awesome.

He basically stands in for Sauron until he's impaled while falling from the tower of Orthanc in the second film, The Two Towers.

Ian McKellen as Gandalf the Grey, and Chris as Saruman. While I love Gandalf, that staff that Saruman is holding is AWESOME.

III.
Dracula
...they had to include a scantily clad woman, didn't they? [sigh]

Back in the good ol' Hammer days, Christopher Lee was the choice antagonist against (usual) hero Peter Cushing. But never was there a more deft battle of the famous two than in this.

Those eyes...

This has been called the most satisfying adaptation EVER by fans of Bram Stoker AND critics. And the performance Chris delivers is ASTOUNDING.

Hey Guys...

Hi guys - Brian here.
I just want to apologize for the slow rate of posts on this blog. I wish we'd have had something up for Walpurgisnacht but it was impossible at the time. I've been so busy with the film that it hasn't left too much free time for me. Mike Dalager has brought some very serious errors to light and I will probably only have a few up for a while. If it helps, I'm gonna set a goal for at least one post per a week. Thanks for understanding.

P.S. Wordpress is WAY more efficient for me than Blogger, but I'm not gonna abandon this site anytime soon.

Usher Twins Double Post - Mark Foster & the Poster Art | I Walk into the Phantom's Lair

Mark Foster & the Poster Art
I originally posted this on Azablog, the official site for my Dreams in the Witch House film. It concerns some poster art.

I have been waiting for a response from Carlos Garcia Rivera. In the meantime, I have found another poster artist who is incredibly talented. This is Mark Foster of H.P. Lovecraft Art.

We've been chatting and I am saving up the money for the commission. Today, Mr. Foster sent me these preliminary sketches for the poster art that looks very promising.

This shows some downright CREEPY sketches of Nyarlathotep reaching out. Added with a Cabin in the Woods-esque Witch House, violet light, stars, claws, and Keziah, I was blown away by these designs.

Some beautiful Nyarlathotep sketches for the poster.

If Mr. Rivera accepts, than thanks, we'll take that. But two posters for one film is not uncommon, and I think that Mark Foster is an incredibly talented artist.

I Walk into the Phantom's Lair

I did this with a greenscreen my father brought home from work.

Oh, and I'm not screaming because of his face. I'm screaming because he's courting Mary Philbin. [Shoot! That wasn't good at all!]
